Avoiding the Triggers (2014) - for Clarinet and Piano

Written for Chester Rowell

Duration: ca. 6 minutes

When people try to renounce negative behaviors, such as an addiction, there are many things that can cause them to relapse. These things are called "Triggers," which are associated with a situation or memory that relates, in some way, to a prior behavior or mentality. Avoiding the Triggers is about people who are trying to gradually better themselves but are faced with several triggers along the way. “Avoiding the Triggers” was selected for performance in 2015 by the Foundation for Modern Music for their annual Young Composers Introductions concert and was awarded the audience’s favorite work.
